Historic Hilo Bay and What Lies Ahead

Ian Birnie, Hilo Harbormaster and District Manager with Harbors Division, State of Hawaii, will present some of Hilo Bay's most interesting history. The title of his presentation is "Historic Hilo Bay: Piers, Landings, and Breakwater Construction ...and What Lies Ahead."

Harbormaster Birnie will delight listeners with descriptions of the various piers and landings that were used in Hilo Bay, along with a history of the breakwater and bayfront. His railroad photo collection includes pictures of the breakwater construction and excursion trains that took sightseers out on it. He will also provide an update on what is currently planned for Hilo Harbor. You won't want to miss it!
