The UHH will deploy a water quality buoy in Hilo Bay to provide continuous, real-time water quality data for the region. Data will be displayed and archived at a public website and will be accessible for research, management and education. Parameters measured include:  Salinity -Temperature -Dissolved oxygen -Turbidity -Nitrate concentration - pH - Chl a (phytoplankton) - Phycoerythrin (phytoplankton)

This buoy is a resource for community members interested in environmental conservation and monitoring. Faculty and students at UH Hilo will maintain the buoy, but community involvement is needed to ensure the safety of the buoy in the water. The UHH is anxious to involve any interested groups in the buoy project.
